SAVE Network Partner in Belgium
Steunpunkt Levend Erfgoed (SLE) is the Belgian rare breeds association. It was founded in 1993 as the "Vereniging voor het Behoud van Zeldzame Huisdierrassen". Since then it has been recognized by the Governmental as an official breeding organisation and entrusted with the organisation of the flock book for old Belgian sheep breeds. It is in the process of setting up a flock book for two old Belgian goat breeds and a herd book for an old Belgian cattle breed. In 2004, SLE opened its Living Heritage Park in the Provincial Domain Puyenbroeck in Wachtebeke near Ghent in cooperation with the Province of East-Flanders. Visitors can admire representative animals of all old breeds of farm animals and poultry. SLE ist the focal point as far as the conservation of the Belgian genetic patrimony is concerned.
