History |
in XIX and XXth century, Marine cows were wild on atlantic south west french coast. They lived on the sand dunes and pine forests. The last wild animals were slaughtered in the years 1950 to 1960. Descendants of these wild cows were discovered in 1987 (only 7 females and 2 males). They were saved and then installed in protected areas and nature reserves. Today, animals belong to the Conservatoire des Races d´Aquitaine and the association of nature conservation SEPANSO. They live totaly free in large parks (e.g 250 ha for the largest) of marsh, dunes and forest |
